Check out this awesome stuff that has been released for mental health awareness month.

Truly CA is an award-winning documentary series produced by KQED, San Francisco Bay Area. They have featured several documentaries that show unique perspectives on behavioral health issues. The following are two videos that are released for your use to watch and or use in training:

  • This Dust of Words (by Bill Rose): Thirty years after he last saw her, Stanford English Professor John Felstiner finds wonder and mystery in the life and death of a brilliant former student, who succumbed to a deepening mental illness. Learn more here.
  • Sons of a Gun (by Rivkah Beth Medow and Greg O'Toole): Larry serves as the caretaker for three men, each of whom has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. When this makeshift family is evicted, their relationship begins to unravel. Learn more here.

These are currently free on YouTube at the links imbedded. These videos have been used as teaching tools at the University of British Columbia’s Institute of Mental Health and the Canadian Psychiatric Association.
